Trending: Authenticity

It feels a little vexing to think of authenticity as “trending.” But isn’t it?

Not to be cynical, but it seems like that’s what everyone is talking about. It’s what people want and expect from each other and what every brand hopes to express. Even here at Tapas. And the truth is for most of us, we want to provide it. We want to be authentic, or at least we want to be seen this way. There are few things that are more attractive or appealing than effortless authenticity.

But, it’s not always as easy as it seems.

As a society, we’re constantly questioning authenticity, and things like culture and technology aren’t providing clear answers. Each day it seems that we are given more and more reasons to doubt our own senses. Is that picture real or AI? Can you trust what you hear and see? Did you source that information? As we struggle to navigate this sea of illusion and confusion, it is easy for us to lose the essence of authenticity for ourselves.

It’s important to have clarity around what we mean by authenticity. We mean knowing who you are, understanding your purpose, and acting from your highest self. It is being true to yourself and expressing that truth fearlessly. So, why is achieving authenticity so hard when it seems like something that should just come naturally to anyone?

The short answer is many people struggle to express themselves authentically. Not because they’re trying to be deceitful, in fact, it’s the exact opposite. Most people are quite sincere in their self-expression. But, even with sincerity, people still carry internal doubts.

There are several reasons why a person might not feel authentic:

  • You fear being judged or ridiculed by others
  • You experience “imposter syndrome”
  • Your values are misaligned or inconsistent with how you feel
  • You were prevented from expressing yourself and never learned how
  • You’re always concerned about meeting other people’s needs
  • You are avoiding confrontation

At Tapas, we value authenticity. We believe it frees you by allowing you to connect to your truest self and integrate untapped energy into your life. Our Ethos Coaching programs are designed for individuals, entrepreneurs, and professionals who are seeking to expand, both personally and professionally. Becoming more authentic is a process of purification where in the end you arrive at yourself knowing that’s exactly where you intended to be.
