Creativity is a natural state for humans. It is of our pure essence to create. We are always capable of creating and are always doing so, whether or not we are aware. We create things all the time that cause us frustration… Awkward situations… Storys we become attached to… Relationships that make us feel powerless. We create walls, obstacles, and blocks, often without even realizing how much energy we’re putting into what we are creating.Â
I don’t think that we see these creations as our being creative. In fact, in most cases, I believe that it feels just the opposite. It feels like these situations are happening to us, outside of our control. Someone else’s creation, perhaps. All we can do is react and after a while, we shift from creating to reacting. As that shift happens, our spirit becomes diminished, and we don’t shine as brightly. We begin to believe that we aren’t capable of being creative. We lose sight of our natural ability to create.
As we become more disconnected from our natural tendencies to create, the act of creating becomes othered. Creating is for inventors, artists, entrepreneurs, mothers, or whoever you are not or can’t, or don’t want to be. Creating becomes something that lives in a narrow space, for specific types of people. But we forget that we are viscerally creative – it is a human need – so we will create, even if that creation becomes destructive. That is why it is so important to learn to create with intentionality. To ALLOW yourself to be creative.Â
What if you could create with intention? What would it be? Space? Balance? Good Health? Art? Joy? Peace? What if you believed in your power to create your own reality? Recognizing that we are in control of the lives we live is a #fearlesstruth that empowers us to live more authentically. Are you allowing yourself to create the life you truly want? To express with purpose. Maybe it’s time to redefine how you view creating and creativity.
Take a moment this week to make space for intentional creativity. Whatever that means to you. Here’s a poem about the power of revealing your shadow on an image I took. It’s one way I create for myself. How can you create more for yourself?
